New URL (Link)

URL objects (Links) provide direct access to an object not contained in the current folder but located somewhere on the Internet (e.g. a Web page, or a file on a FTP server). A URL object may also be used to access a BSCW object in another folder on the same BSCW server (local link).

A URL object basically consists of its name and the address, e.g. http://bscw.gmd.de/Download.html. Enter the name and the address of the URL in the form and click 'OK' to create the URL object in the current folder. You may also specifiy an optional description and an optional rating of the URL. You may choose if you want to simply create a link to an external resource or if you want BSCW to fetch (upload) a document from the given URL (this will create a local copy of the resource that can be accessed even if the original resource becomes unavailable, e.g. because the document has been moved or the server has been shut down).
